A father says what was to be his teen son's first ride on a Boston train ended in tragedy. Police say Frankey Wright Jr. and his girlfriend, both 19, entered the MBTA's Forest Hills Station on Saturday afternoon carrying flags representing countries of the Caribbean; they were reportedly headed to the city's Caribbean Festival. A rep for the MBTA says Wright's girlfriend lost her balance near the edge of the platform. "The male proceeded to assist her as the woman realigned back on her feet but [she] fell backwards into the empty right of way. The male who was attempting to assist her also fell into the right of way and landed on the electrified third rail." He died at the scene.
Wright's father tells WFXT his son "lost his life trying to save the life of his girlfriend." A GoFundMe launched by loved ones describes Wright as a "noble boy with a big heart." It has raised $13,000 for funeral expenses as of this writing.
