Report: GOP Megadonor Signals 2028 Preference for Rubio

"The interaction was brief," but Axios is mining it for meaning. At the private Allen & Company conference in Sun Valley, Idaho, billionaire investor and Republican power broker Ken Griffin told interviewer Andrew Ross Sorkin he'd lean toward backing Secretary of State Marco Rubio over Vice President Vance in a 2028 GOP presidential primary, Axios reports.

Griffin, whose $100 million made him the fifth-biggest donor in the 2024 race, noted that he previously funded Rubio's 2016 bid and said he'd be inclined to do so again. Axios notes that Rubio has publicly said he'd step aside if Vance runs in 2028, but points out Griffin's funds would be a major financial boost should Rubio decide to enter the race.
