Complaint Leads to Landlord's Alleged Stash of Guns, Reptiles

Deputies in Maryland say a landlord's violent confrontation with his tenants led them to a property stocked with guns—and an alligator. Charles County authorities arrested 57-year-old Sir Leander Evans Gamble of Waldorf on Friday after he allegedly assaulted three tenants renting a trailer on his land and pointed a handgun at them, including a woman who was eight months pregnant, Fox News reports. A search of the property turned up six handguns, officials said.

When animal control officers arrived, they reported finding an alligator, a caiman, a snake, an emu, plus dogs, cats, and pigs, all allegedly housed in conditions that violated state animal-cruelty laws. The animals were removed, and that investigation is ongoing. Tenants also claimed a dog named Carter died due to a lack of air conditioning in the trailer, though animal control has not confirmed a cause of death. Gamble is charged with aggravated assault and is being held without bond. Additional charges could be coming, per the Daily Voice.
