South Carolina Gov. has decided who will temporarily inherit Lindsey Graham's Senate seat: Graham's sister. McMaster announced Monday that Darline Graham Nordone will serve the remainder of the Republican's term, which expires in January, the AP reports. The governor said he had asked Nordone to serve "in the wee hours of Sunday morning" after Graham's death. In a social media post earlier Monday, Trump urged McMaster to pick Nordone as an interim senator, saying it "would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!"
- "It is such an honor," Nordone said Monday. "Lindsey has always been there for me. And now, I will be there for him." She added: "To Lindsey, I miss you more than I can even put into words. But I'm going to do this. I got it."
Whether she will seek a full term is unclear, and several Republicans—including Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman—are eyeing the seat, reports Politico. State law requires a fast-track GOP primary on Aug. 11, a schedule that could favor candidates with recent statewide campaigns, such as Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Norman.
