Having Lost a Friend in Graham, Zelensky to Meet With Trump

Ukraine's leader is headed to Washington with more than a funeral on his schedule. As ABC News reports, a White House official says President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with President Trump on Tuesday while in town for Sen. Lindsey Graham's service; the two had been close, and Graham visited Ukraine shortly before his death. The visit gives Zelensky a chance to seek new support after losing what Axios calls "one of Ukraine's congressional champions." After the South Carolina Republican's death, Zelensky himself called Graham "a staunch advocate for bipartisan and bicameral support for Ukraine," notes Politico.

The visit comes as Zelensky publicly accuses Russia of aiding Iran's strikes in the Gulf region. In a post on X, he said Ukrainian intelligence has found "there is a clear correlation between Russia's satellite imagery of these sites and Iranian strikes—both before the attacks, in preparation for them, and afterward, to assess the damage inflicted." The White House has not commented on the claims or whether it has received the intelligence, while Trump said Friday he trusts Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping aren't assisting Iran in any "major" way. Ahead of Zelensky's stop in Washington on Tuesday, he will first visit Britain and become the first foreign leader to meet with new PM Andy Burnham, notes the AP.
