The first day of testimony in the trial of a Massachusetts woman accused of murdering her three young children provided a wrenching detail. Lindsay Clancy built a snowman with the kids hours before their deaths, ex-husband Patrick Clancy testified on Monday, reports CNN. "She was having one of her best days," he told the court. Lindsay Clancy has admitted strangling Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, but her defense team argues she was suffering from severe postpartum depression and is not criminally responsible.

Patrick Clancy told jurors his wife had described suicidal thoughts and "intrusive" urges to harm the kids in the months after their third child was born, amid a string of psychiatric hospitalizations and medications. The prosecution argues she was still acting with clear intent when the children were killed in the basement of their Duxbury home. "One by one, [Lindsay] grabbed exercise bands around each one of the kids' necks and pulled until their little bodies were limp and lifeless," said Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham, per People.
