Task Force: Antisemitism Globally Is Our 'New Normal'

A new tally of anti-Jewish violence paints 2025 as the deadliest year in decades for Jews living outside Israel. A report from the J7 Large Communities' Task Force Against Antisemitism says 20 people were killed in attacks in Australia, the UK, and the US, making it the worst year since the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Argentina's Buenos Aires, which killed 85 and wounded 300, per CBS News. The task force, which tracks incidents in seven countries that together host most of the Jewish diaspora, logged more than 23,000 antisemitic incidents, a 136% jump from 2022. Violent cases rose 97% in that span.

While overall numbers dipped slightly in the US, Australia, Canada, and France compared with 2024, they remained well above pre-Oct. 7 levels. "Antisemitism ... is no longer a surge; it is our new normal," J7 warned, urging tougher laws and better security. "Violent antisemitic attacks don't just start with violence," but "with words on social media," a spokesperson for the US-based Anti-Defamation League says, per the BBC. "Social media has been used in the past few years as a place for radicalization for different groups and individuals, including those that later go on a violent spree against a synagogue or a school—and now AI is part of it."
