Cops: Kidnapper Kills Victim in Front of Deputies

A kidnapping in a quiet Chino Hills cul-de-sac in California ended in shocking manner: One of the kidnappers executed the victim in front of deputies, say authorities. Deputies then fatally shot the assailant, reports KTLA. San Bernardino County sheriff's officials say the chain of events began around 10:15pm Thursday, when a man stepped outside his home in Chino Hills and was shot, then forced into the trunk of a car by two men. Responding deputies spotted the vehicle and gave chase, and the driver pulled over, per the Los Angeles Times.

A man in the passenger seat exited the vehicle and surrendered. But the driver stepped out, went to the rear of the car, opened the trunk, and fatally shot the victim, says the sheriff's office. Deputies then shot and killed the gunman. All three men were reportedly in their 60s, according to KTLA, but police have not speculated about a motive or further identified them. "There's still a lot to be learned," sheriff's spokesperson Gloria Orejel tells the Daily Bulletin.
