Ford is reportedly preparing to give its iconic Mustang something it's never had: back doors. The Wall Street Journal reports that the automaker showed dealers a four-door model this week. Two of the newspaper's sources said the car was a hybrid as well, though a Ford spokesman offered a zipped-lip response to all of this: "We do not comment or speculate about future products." Assuming Ford goes ahead with the vehicle, the Journal predicts it would likely be for sale "before the close of this decade."
A four-door Mustang could help offset sliding sales of the two-door, which have dropped from 122,000 in 2015 to about 45,000 last year. The Mustang is one of the most famous cars in history, and Men's Journal notes that a new survey of car enthusiasts from AmericanMuscle labeled it the vehicle that most often turned ordinary drivers into car lovers.
