Colbert's Daughter Has a Job Again

Stephen Colbert's newly unemployed daughter is returning to a familiar newsroom. Journalist Madeleine Carlisle, who recently left 60 Minutes amid a wave of departures, has been hired as a staff writer at the Atlantic, editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg has announced. Carlisle previously spent 2018-19 at the magazine as a fellow on the politics team before moving to Time and then to CBS' flagship news show in 2022, per the Hollywood Reporter.

"A bunch of us sensed that, sooner or later, she would be coming back to us," wrote Goldberg in an internal memo, per Deadline. "Maddie was a very successful member of the 2018-19 fellowship class who went on to cover politics, law, and gender issues for Time magazine. "We've been so happy to watch her become an outstanding journalist, and we're thrilled that she's rejoining the Atlantic," he said.

At 60 Minutes, Carlisle worked with correspondents including Scott Pelley, Anderson Cooper, and Cecilia Vega, and was part of an Emmy-nominated team. Her exit came as the program faces internal turmoil and accusations that new leadership is encroaching on editorial independence. Goldberg also revealed that the Atlantic is bringing on former Vibe and Billboard editor in chief Danyel Smith as a staff writer.
