Trial to Resolve Hip-Hop's Biggest Mystery to Begin

Almost three decades after Tupac Shakur was gunned down off the Las Vegas Strip, the lone person ever charged in the case is finally facing a jury. Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, goes on trial Monday, accused of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by that killed the 25-year-old rapper, though prosecutors say he wasn't the triggerman. Instead, they allege Davis helped plan the shooting and supplied the gun used from a white Cadillac carrying four men, three of whom are now dead, reports Fox News.

Davis, a leader of South Side Compton Crips at the time, has pleaded not guilty, per the AP. His own past interviews and 2019 memoir, in which he places himself in the car that night, will be used against him after a judge ruled they're admissible. His lawyers say he exaggerated his role and compared the case's mythology to the JFK assassination. Another passenger in the vehicle with Shakur, music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight, also got shot but survived. The trial is expected to last about four weeks.
