MLB Star's 'Team-Bonding Event' Takes a Turn

The Los Angeles Angels aren't known for being an aggressive team at the trade deadline, but this year was different. When the deadline arrived last Monday, the Angels moved no fewer than five players in a matter of hours, notes CBS Sports. Here's the weirder part: Star outfielder Mike Trout had inadvertently planned what the Athletic describes as a "team-bonding event" for that very day: Back in the spring, he invited the team to his private golf course in New Jersey, without realizing it was deadline day.

The golf started, and soon the trades did, too. "It seemed like every four or five holes someone was getting the call," recalls Trout. Four of the five players who got traded that day—Brent Suter, Jo Adell, Ryan Zeferjahn, and Kirby Yates—learned the news while either on the course or just off it. "After somebody went, we just kept saying, 'All right, who's next?'" Yates tells the Athletic. "Suffice it to say, no team ever experienced a deadline day like this," writes Ken Rosenthal.
