Dad's Stroller Run May Be a World Record

A dad may have just pushed his way into the record books—literally. Stephen Biebelhausen entered the stroller division of the Guardian Mile race in Cleveland and finished in a blistering 4:17, reports the Akron Beacon Journal. Guinness confirmation awaits, but that is 9 seconds faster than the current record time for running while pushing a stroller. In this case, he was accompanied by his 1-year-old daughter, Blake.

"I truly did not think I was going for the world record," Biebelhausen tells Runner's World. "I thought on a good day I could break the course record of 4:44 and get into the 4:30s." Biebelhausen is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and avid runner who has made a habit of taking Blake along on his runs, though usually at a far more leisurely pace around their neighborhood. And channeling his medical background, he advises others who want to do the same to get a stroller built for running—and to wait until a baby has solid head and neck control, usually around 5 months.
