Two Nations Yank a Trader Joe's Product

A Trader Joe's seasoning is getting yanked off online retailers in Singapore and South Korea—because of its poppy seeds. The seeds are banned in both countries because they derive from the opium poppy, and authorities there fear they may have trace amounts of opiates, reports the BBC. The seasoning in question is the chain's popular Everything But the Bagel flavor.

"Singapore adopts a strict policy of zero tolerance towards controlled drugs," says the nation's narcotics bureau. Seoul officials maintain that the US-made blend tested positive for morphine and codeine, per the Straits Times. Police in South Korea say travelers brought the seasoning home as souvenirs, then resold it online—sometimes unaware it could be classified as an illegal narcotic.
