The Baby Shark Kid Is Back

A decade after leading the internet's most inescapable earworm, the original "Baby Shark" kid is back—with a K-pop twist. Park Geon-roung, who was 6 when he danced through the 2014 video that has since racked up 17 billion YouTube views, is debuting as a K-pop artist under the rather predictable moniker "Baby Shark Boy," reports People. "I've always been grateful that people still remember a video I appeared in as a kid," Park said, per Forbes. "Ten years ago I was dancing next to Baby Shark. Now, I wanted to share my own voice and a story I wrote myself."

Now 17, Park has signed on with the Pinkfong Company, the brand behind the hit, and will release his first single, "WAVE," featuring Monsta X rapper Joohoney. The track drops Wednesday in the US and next Thursday in South Korea. Pinkfong says the project could remain a one-off, with plans to decide after the release and a follow-up documentary, "WAVE: A Boy's Record," which will chronicle Park's path since the original shoot.
