4 Americans Die in Tourist Helicopter Crash

Four Americans were among seven people killed when a charter helicopter went down in a rugged part of northern Kenya on Wednesday, US officials confirmed. The aircraft, which the AP calls a "safari helicopter," crashed in the foothills of Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County around 9:13am local time, according to Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority.

The helicopter was operated by Lady Lori Kenya and was flying from a wildlife conservancy in Loisaba to Ewaso Nyiro, "a river that flows along several national reserves," per the BBC. Search and recovery teams, aided by Kenya's Red Cross, faced tough terrain and a fire at the scene, reports NBC News. Identities of the pilot and six passengers on board have not been fully released, but NBCUniversal said José Suárez, 55, a longtime executive who currently served as president of multiple Telemundo-owned stations in Florida, was among the dead.
