Trump Provides a Count of North Korea's Nukes

President Trump says round four with Kim Jong Un is coming. Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Wednesday, the president said he expects to meet with the North Korean leader later this year; the two met three times during Trump's first term. The president also told reporters that Pyongyang has "57 very powerful nuclear weapons," a more precise number than US officials typically provide but in line with "widely reported estimates," the Washington Post reports.

Trump called his rapport with Kim a plus for global security, arguing that North Korea "should have never" obtained nuclear arms but can be handled "as long as we have a smart president." The White House has not confirmed any meeting, though Trump is slated to travel to Asia in November for an APEC summit in China. On Sunday, he ordered a sharp pullback in US-South Korea military drills, citing his "very good relationship" with Kim.
