If you think everyone around you is grinding away, WalletHub has thoughts on where the hustle is actually happening. The personal finance site crunched data for all 50 states to see which ones log the most effort, drawing on 10 indicators in two buckets: "direct" work factors like hours on the job, employment levels, unused vacation, worker engagement, and the share of 18- to 24-year-olds who are neither in school nor working; and "indirect" ones such as commute length, multiple-job rates, volunteer time, and how much of the day is spent on leisure. The analysis leans on figures from agencies including the Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics, and produces a ranked list of America's hardest- and least-hardworking states.
