Thousands Push for 'Dolly Parton International'

Just like her admirer President Trump, the late Dolly Parton could be getting an airport in her name. A Change.org petition to rechristen Nashville International Airport as Dolly Parton International Airport has surged past 100,000 signatures since the country legend died Tuesday at 80 after what her family called a brief cancer battle, People reports. The effort, launched in January by Tennesseans Lydia Popovich and Dan Dion, was revived this week as "tens of thousands" added their names, they said. "Tennessee could hardly choose a better name to put above its front door," a Tennessean column posits, chronicling Parton's philanthropy across the state.

The push has drawn support from Sheryl Crow and Republican state Rep. Todd Warner, who now says he'll file legislation to back the switch after his 2025 bill to rename the airport after Trump failed in committee. "Dolly was so good to this state," he says. "I think it would pay a great tribute." Nashville Councilman Russ Bradford says he's already contacted airport officials, though any renaming would require approval from the Airport Authority and the FAA. The airport's current code, BNA, reflects its original name: Berry Field Nashville.
