Matthew Perry's story is getting a three-part spotlight on Netflix this fall. The streamer will release The One About Matthew Perry on Oct. 27, almost exactly three years after the actor's accidental overdose at age 54, with the docuseries promising a closer look at the Friends actor's life on and off screen. Narrated largely through the eyes of his sister, Mia Perry Bowick, the series draws on never-before-seen family photos and videos and includes appearances by some of Perry's longtime friends and creative partners, Variety reports, though it's not yet clear if any Friends stars are taking part. Netflix calls it "the first in-depth documentary about the actor, featuring some of the people who knew him best."
Director Mary Robertson (Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV) says the project aims to show the man behind Chandler Bing and Perry's candid public discussions of addiction. He was "one of the comedic geniuses of our time," but "the public only knew part of his story," she says in a release. Bowick, a licensed psychotherapist, calls it an effort to share what it was like to "love Matthew through all the complexity of his life." "I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind," she says.
