Ford is betting big that a $30,000 electric pickup can do what no non-Tesla has done in America. The automaker is targeting sales north of 100,000 in the first year for its new Fathom truck, sources tell the Wall Street Journal, a volume only Tesla has hit with a single EV model in the US. Built on a new assembly line in Louisville and designed with fewer parts to cut costs, the Fathom is pitched as Ford's "Model T moment" and aimed squarely at mainstream buyers who've balked at $50,000-plus EVs. Car and Driver notes that the price tag would place it among the US' "most affordable EVs." The launch comes as US EV demand cools following Trump-era policy shifts and the phaseout of a $7,500 federal credit, with EVs' share of new-car sales roughly halved in a year. Ford begins taking orders early next year. Electrek has photos of the apparently camera-shy truck here.
