Chicago comes out looking relatively ready for a hotter, wetter future. That's per geospatial AI firm AlphaGeo, which ranked 72 major cities using a Climate Risk & Resilience Index that factors in both exposure to threats like sea-level rise and extreme weather as well as how well each place has prepared. Chicago tops the resilience list, helped by limited coastal risk and infrastructure built to tackle flooding and urban heat. At the other end, the most vulnerable big cities are all in South Asia, showing high risk and relatively modest adaptation gains, underscoring the region's exposure to heatwaves, volatile monsoons, and rising seas. Without ado, the five most- and least-resilient cities:
Most climate-resilient cities
- Chicago
- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Melbourne, Australia
- Barcelona, Spain
- Ankara, Turkey
Least climate-resilient cities
- Ahmedabad, India
- Hyderabad, Pakistan
- Multan, Pakistan
- Dhaka, Bangladesh
- Lahore, Pakistan
