One of the most talked-about outfits in royal history is going under the hammer. Princess Diana's so-called "revenge dress"—the black, off-the-shoulder Christina Stambolian gown she wore the night Prince Charles admitted his affair on TV in 1994—will be auctioned at Sotheby's in New York on Dec. 9, with an estimate of $150,000 to $300,000, reports USA Today. Before the sale, it will tour Sotheby's sites in London, Hong Kong, and Geneva, including a stop during London Fashion Week.

"Few dresses have crossed the confines of fashion to become such a definitive pop culture moment as this LBD—or have their own Wikipedia page," notes Vogue. "More than 30 years later, it remains a case study in the ability of clothes to communicate what their wearer would rather leave unsaid." Diana sold the dress in 1997 as part of a charity auction just weeks before her death. The current anonymous owner, who bought it with a late spouse, says it's time the dress moved on to a new owner. Part of the proceeds will go to Britain's NHS Lothian Charity.
