(AP Photo/Rick Bowmer, File) A 27-year-old Salt Lake City firefighter has been identified as the wingsuit BASE jumper who died Sunday morning in Cache County, Utah. Authorities say Gabe Reilly was jumping from a roughly 700-foot cliff east of Millville Canyon with a group of eight to 10 people when his wingsuit failed to generate enough lift around 9:10am, per KSL. Chief Deputy Doyle Peck says Reilly was an experienced BASE jumper but "something went wrong" and "he impacted the ground at a high rate of speed," per the New York Times. Reilly was pronounced dead at the scene; a Life Flight helicopter helped remove his body from the remote area. The Salt Lake City Fire Department on Monday confirmed Reilly's death, noting he had served as a firefighter for four years and was the son of a firefighter who'd recently retired from the same department, per the New York Post. The department described him as free-spirited and dedicated, and offered condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends. The death comes two months after daredevil Andy Lewis and another man were killed in a tandem BASE jump near Moab, Utah. Read These Next Netherlands confirms a 1-year-old was euthanized.
