President Trump's new AI helper is giving him something he rarely gets from his own administration: pushback. The government-run chatbot at America.gov, which Trump praised as "damn good" as a one-stop portal for federal information, repeatedly undercuts some of his most familiar claims on election fraud, immigration, tariffs, inflation, and his marquee domestic policy law, reports the New York Times. Said to draw on official government sources, the bot asserts that US elections are broadly secure and the number of prosecuted voter-fraud cases is "tiny"; disputes Trump's claim that 25 million migrants crossed the border under President Biden; and notes that Americans—not foreign companies—bear the cost of Trump's tariffs.

It also contradicts his upbeat inflation rhetoric, saying consumer prices aren't falling. On Trump's signature policy bill, it leans on Congressional Budget Office estimates to say the legislation will add trillions to the nation's debt, strip health insurance coverage from more than 10 million people, and, on average, worsen inequality. The chatbot avoids overtly political questions but echoes Trump on some rebranded geography, calling the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America."

Variety does note, however, that the bot answers one very important political question with a reply that Trump probably won't like: When asked who won (and lost) the 2020 election, it replies, "Joseph R. Biden Jr. won the 2020 US presidential election. Donald J. Trump lost." The AP reports that the chatbot also has some interesting answers on climate change, Trump running for president in 2028, and presidential salaries, while Gizmodo notes that it "seems to drop acid" when you ask it to play Minecraft. The White House didn't say whether Trump knew the tool routinely conflicts with his statements, though Democrats are already amplifying the contradictions, per the Times.
