Larry David's knack for awkward real-life moments apparently extends to one of the most infamous days in modern crime history. A new authorized biography, Emperor of Nothing, reveals that David and his family were eating breakfast at Los Angeles' Riviera Country Club on June 12, 1994—at the same time that OJ Simpson was also there, hours before Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were killed, per Rolling Stone. Comedy writer Alan Zweibel, who was dining with David, recalls chatting with Simpson at the club, then bumping into him again that day at their daughters' middle school dance recital.
Zweibel now jokes that he wishes he'd told Simpson, "Stay home tonight! Order in! Don't go out!" NewsNation recounts a story from Nicole Brown Simpson's sister, Denise Brown, who said that at that dance recital, which she attended, her former brother-in-law was "acting strangely" and greeted every family member except his estranged wife. Instead, Brown said at the time, Simpson simply stared at his ex from the back of the auditorium. Simpson, who died of prostate cancer on April 10, 2024, at the age of 76, was later acquitted in the criminal case against him but found liable in a civil suit. Emperor of Nothing, based on extensive interviews with David and his circle, is due out on Tuesday.
