World | Israel Israel: Missing Soldier Was Killed Hadar Goldin wasn't kidnapped, unclear how military figured out he was killed By Polly Davis Doig Posted Aug 3, 2014 9:49 AM CDT Copied The Israeli military announced early Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, that Army 2nd. Lt. Hadar Goldin, 23, had been killed in battle on Friday. Goldin was previously believed captured by Hamas. (AP Photo/YNet News) Israeli Hadar Goldin—the soldier supposedly kidnapped by Hamas on Friday, shattering that tenuous ceasefire—was really killed in action, the Israeli military confirmed early today. The announcement comes just hours after PM Benjamin Netanyahu signaled he would not take his foot off the gas, reports the New York Times; indeed, an attack today on a UN-run school in Gaza killed at least 10, and was blamed on Israel. Interestingly, Israel offered up no information on how it had determined that Goldin had died in battle that day, notes the AP.
