The US military pressed ahead Saturday in a frantic search for a missing pilot over a remote area in southwestern Iran, a day after the Islamic Republic shot down a US warplane and promised a reward for whoever turns in the pilot. The plane, identified by Iran as a F-15E Strike Eagle, was one of two attacked Friday, with one service member rescued and at least one missing, the AP reports. It was the first time the United States lost an aircraft in Iranian territory during the war, now in its sixth week. The search for the American pilot focused on a mountainous region in Iran's southwestern province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad.

The BBC says it has verified video of people shooting at Black Hawk helicopters on an apparent rescue mission. Sources tell the Hill that two American helicopters were hit but managed to escape. Iranian state media said the Iranian search for the crew member has "so far been unsuccessful" and a reward is being offered for anyone capture an "enemy pilot or pilots."

  • Special forces veteran Bryan Stern tells CNN that the rescue mission will be "very dangerous and complex" and may have to take place at night, though it is urgent to find the pilot as soon as possible. They have been "on the run for a day and a half … which is a very long time when being actively pursued behind enemy lines, in the mountains, limited communications and also possibly injured," says Stern, founder of a company that rescues people from conflict zones.
  • President Trump hasn't said much publicly about the search but he repeated an ultimatum to Iran on Saturday, the New York Times reports. "Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them," he wrote. "Glory be to GOD!"
