Tesla is putting a high-priced bow on its original flagship sedans as it prepares to move on, reports Business Insider. The company is quietly offering an invite-only "Signature" edition of the soon-to-be-retired Model S and Model X, according to screenshots circulating online. The special trims start at $159,420—a price that nods to Elon Musk's favored number and sits roughly $60,000 above current versions—and reportedly include free Supercharging, Tesla's Full Self-Driving software, a gold Tesla badge, gold carbon-ceramic brakes, and a garnet-red paint color reminiscent of early Model S models. About 250 Signature Model S cars will be built, and 100 of the Model X, reports Teslarati.
The send-off comes as Musk phases out the luxury EVs, launched in 2012 (Model S) and 2015 (Model X), to clear factory capacity for Tesla's next bets: the Optimus humanoid robot and the Cybercab robotaxi. Musk has called the move an "honorable discharge" and part of a pivot toward an "autonomous future," with both Optimus and Cybercab slated for mass production this year. The only other new vehicle Tesla has on deck is a fresh Roadster, which Musk says could be unveiled later this month.
