30 Years Later, a Conviction in Tupac's Murder

Three decades after Tupac Shakur was gunned down on a Las Vegas street, a jury has decided one man bears legal responsibility. Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former South Side Compton Crips leader, was convicted Monday of murder for orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting, reports the Washington Post.

The case was revived after Davis, 63, repeatedly described his role in interviews, a 2018 documentary, and his memoir, Compton Street Legend. Prosecutors leaned heavily on those accounts and a once-secret 2008 police interview, arguing Davis sought revenge after Shakur and his entourage assaulted his nephew. The defense insisted Davis embellished for profit and attention, calling his story "fiction," but jurors deliberated only about three hours before returning a guilty verdict, per the AP. Davis faces a possible life sentence.
