Ruby Rose is publicly accusing Katy Perry of sexually assaulting her in a Melbourne nightclub more than a decade ago—an allegation Perry's camp is forcefully rejecting. In a series of Threads posts Sunday, the 40-year-old Australian actor wrote that she was in her early 20s when Perry allegedly assaulted her at Spice Market nightclub. She said Perry moved her underwear and rubbed her genitals on Rose's face while Rose was lying on a friend's lap, causing her to vomit, People reports.

Rose said it took her "almost 2 decades" to speak out and described women-on-women sexual abuse as particularly difficult to disclose. She added she doesn't intend to file a report but invited Perry to sue her, claiming there were witnesses and photos. Rose didn't give the year of the alleged assault, but Australian media reported in August 2010 that she visited the Spice Market with Perry while the singer was in Melbourne, Rolling Stone reports.

  • "The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies," a Perry rep said in a statement, per Variety. "Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named."

Rose, who joined the cast of Orange Is the New Black in 2015, said one of the reasons she didn't speak out about the alleged assault was that Perry wrote letters of recommendation to help her secure a work visa for the US. "I told the story publicly but changed it to be a 'funny little drunk story' because I didn't know how else to handle it," Rose wrote on Threads. "Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret."
