President Trump just found an unlikely ally in his push to cut drug costs: Mark Cuban. The president on Monday announced that TrumpRx, his administration's online price-comparison tool for medications, is adding more than 600 generics to its listings, in partnership with Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs, Amazon's pharmacy arm, and GoodRx. The new additions include widely used blood pressure pills, antibiotics, and statins, many priced under $5 for people paying cash, reports the New York Times. "We have the same thing, one thing in common: We want to make people better and keep them wealthy," Trump said of himself and Cuban, per the AP.
TrumpRx, launched in February, doesn't sell medicines itself; it steers users to the lowest available out-of-pocket prices and suggests they still check what insurance might cover. Some listings now include neighborhood maps that let users compare prices pharmacy by pharmacy. Cuban, a longtime Trump critic who backed Kamala Harris in 2024, called the effort a "special partnership," saying cheaper drugs cut across party lines. Trump joked that Cuban's endorsement had been "a big mistake" but said he respected him and predicted his company "is going to do a lot of business with this." The move comes as midterm elections loom with voters squeezed by rising costs tied to the Iran war, notes the AP, as well as Republican-led cuts to Medicaid and the expiration of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies.
