The latest media brand fight in Washington, DC, has ended with one clear winner: The Washington Star. Political news site NOTUS has abandoned plans to rebrand as "the Star" after being sued in May by the recently revived Washington Star, which argued the shared name, locale, and focus would confuse readers. "Both parties have amicably resolved the matter," a NOTUS rep told the Washington Post on Thursday. "We continue to work toward a new name." Each will cover their own legal costs, and other terms weren't disclosed, reports the New York Times. The Washington Star, a conservative-leaning paper that folded in 1981 and was relaunched last month on Substack, is planning a weekend print edition by year's end. NOTUS is owned by Robert Allbritton, whose father briefly owned the original Washington Star in the 1970s.
