Amy Coney Barrett's day job is on the Supreme Court, but her 2025 income was driven by a book. The justices' financial disclosures released Monday show Barrett pulled in nearly $850,000 last year from her legal memoir, Listening to the Law, on top of a $303,600 judicial salary and about $33,000 from teaching at Notre Dame, USA Today reports. Counting a $425,000 advance reported in 2021, the deal pushes her into the court's growing circle of seven-figure authors, alongside fellow Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ketanji Brown Jackson, Neil Gorsuch, and Clarence Thomas. Sotomayor's form included a gift of concert tickets that suggests she might have caught Bad Bunny's act in Puerto Rico last summer.
Overall, Jackson led the justices in outside income in 2025, with $1.2 million in royalties for her memoir Lovely One and its young-adult adaptation. Gorsuch reported $300,000 in royalties and Sotomayor $88,000. Several justices logged additional income from law school teaching. The reports also preview more literary cash to come: Samuel Alito's book, So Ordered, lands in October, though any earnings won't show up until 2027; he received a standard 90-day extension to file this year's disclosure.
Speaking engagements also showed up. Kavanaugh's meals, transportation, and lodging were provided when he spoke last fall at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. Sotomayor put the value of the tickets for an unnamed concert last August at $4,333, per the AP. They came from Rimas Entertainment, the label behind Bad Bunny, who performed a series of concerts in Puerto Rico that month. Sotomayor's form says she was on a private trip there at the time.
