Firefighters Don't Only Rescue Cats From Trees

San Francisco's famously free-flying parrots had a rough day on Sunday—or, at least one of them did. Citing the city's Animal Care & Control, UPI reports that a wild parrot ended up with its head wedged between two panes of glass on a third-floor balcony of a building under construction, prompting a joint rescue by San Francisco firefighters and an animal control officer. Firefighters accessed the balcony from the roof using a ladder, then carefully slid the trapped bird upward until its head came free.

The parrot was bundled up in a towel (the fire department has pics) and examined on the spot; its wings, legs, and neck were all good, officials said, so it was released. The exhausted bird flew to a nearby tree to recover, where other parrots soon gathered, loudly vocalizing in what officials described as a celebratory scene.
