(AP Photo/Mariam Zuhaib) It's not just Howard Lutnick's government salary that's paying the bills. The commerce secretary reported at least $250 million in income last year, largely tied to his long tenure at Cantor Fitzgerald, per a 74-page ethics filing obtained by the Wall Street Journal. Lutnick, who resigned from top roles at Cantor and hundreds of other entities around the time he joined President Trump's cabinet, collected roughly $190 million from Cantor before transferring his stake to his family; his two eldest sons now run the firm. Lutnick's disclosed assets fell to a minimum of $237 million from at least $805 million previously, reflecting large 2025 sell-offs and a shift into index and money-market funds. The filing has yet to appear on the Office of Government Ethics website. His income pales in comparison to that of his boss: Trump most recent filing reported more than $2 billion in income. It was Lutnick who said last year that if Social Security missed a month of payments, his 94-year-old mother-in-law wouldn't complain; she'd just wait till next month.
