Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is offering something unusual to a Massachusetts juror: "asylum" in his state. The governor blasted NBC10 Boston after it aired a report about the lone holdout in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial that included past domestic violence allegations against the man, an active restraining order, and a pending eviction case, reports the Hill. The network did not identify the juror because he has not chosen to come forward since the case ended in a mistrial.
"A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected," DeSantis wrote on social media. "Another low for legacy media." He added that if "the juror is being harassed, Florida will provide asylum—I'm sure he'd be welcomed and appreciated." The juror was the only one who opposed finding Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity in the deaths of her three young children. NBC10's reporting raised questions about how he passed Massachusetts' standard juror screening, which asks about prior arrests, charges, and court orders.
