One glider made it down safely; the other didn't. New York State Police say two glider planes collided in the air on Friday afternoon over a remote area of Saratoga County, killing one pilot, reports ABC News. NBC News has some scenes from the crash, which authorities were alerted to around 2:30pm. They later found wreckage off Sand Lake Road, in the town of Edinburg.
One glider managed to land at nearby Plateau Sky Ranch Airport, with its pilot uninjured. The second glider's pilot, the sole occupant, "was discovered deceased at the crash site," per a police statement. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified, and investigators are still working to determine what went wrong. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call 518-457-6811.
