Two of the biggest names in app-based delivery might soon ride under one banner, the Wall Street Journal reports. Sources say DoorDash is in advanced talks to buy grocery-focused rival Instacart in a deal that could be sealed this week and would value Instacart at about $17 billion, though the sources cautioned it could still fall apart.
Investors reacted fast: Instacart's stock jumped about 8% Monday, while DoorDash shares slid roughly 6%. Instacart, public since 2023, was valued near $13 billion before the news; DoorDash is worth about $73 billion. A takeover would hand DoorDash a dominant foothold in online grocery delivery, adding Instacart's supermarket partnerships to its roster of restaurant and retail services. Earlier reports indicated Uber was also in takeover talks with Instacart, but sources tell Reuters those talks have ended. DoorDash has recently made investments around the globe, acquiring British and Finnish delivery companies recently, Fox Business reports.
