Taylor Swift's latest album has landed her in court. ABC News reports that Las Vegas entertainer Maren Flagg, who performs as Maren Wade, is suing Swift, Universal Music Group, and merch partner Bravado over Swift's 2025 album title The Life of a Showgirl. Flagg says the name treads on her federally registered brand "Confessions of a Showgirl," which covers a stage show, touring production, and Las Vegas Weekly column. Her lawsuit filed on Monday argues that the two slogans share "the same structure, the same dominant phrase, and the same overall commercial impression," claiming Swift's team pressed ahead even after the US Patent and Trademark Office reportedly rejected their attempt to trademark The Life of a Showgirl for being too close to Flagg's mark.
Flagg, who once appeared on America's Got Talent , wants a jury trial, an order blocking Swift from using the phrase, profits tied to it, and legal costs. Swift's camp hasn't commented, but some fans have, resurfacing Flagg's past social posts that appeared to celebrate the album and used Swift-related hashtags; the AP notes that Flagg's social media accounts have since "gone silent in recent months." Flagg's attorney says the case is about protection of intellectual property. "A solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn't have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along," Jaymie Parkkinen says in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter.
