Op-Ed: Only 'Lindsey's War' Poses a Risk to Graham

Sen. Lindsey Graham has proven predictions of his political demise wrong for two decades now, writes Kathleen Parker in the Washington Post. The South Carolina Republican has skated through reelection after reelection in one of the country's reddest states, even swatting away an "astounding" $130 million challenge from Democrat Jaime Harrison in 2020. In a state that kept Strom Thurmond in the Senate until age 100, betting against Graham in the upcoming election looks foolish. But there is one notable asterisk, writes Parker: the Iran war, "which, given Graham's campaign to get (President) Trump onboard, may as well be called Graham's War."

At the moment, the prospects for an end to the conflict and (rising gas prices) were looking up, but "only a fool would risk prediction" on that front, writes Parker. "An ardent supporter and wingman to the president, Graham won't be able to distance himself from the Iran debacle should negotiations go south," she adds. "With so much in flux, there's no telling where the war goes and, therefore, no telling what's in Graham's future." Read her full column.
