A planned fight among young people escalated into a mass shooting at a Winston-Salem, North Carolina park Monday morning as multiple people fired at each other, authorities said. The shooting happened around 10am at Leinbach Park, which is next to Jefferson Middle School, Winston-Salem police said in a social media post. The shooting did not occur at the school, which was on lockdown until the scene was secure, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said.
- Winston-Salem Police Capt. Kevin Burns said a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old died at the scene, the AP reports. Five others between the ages of 14 and 19 were shot and suffered injuries ranging from critical to minor, Burns said at a news conference. Four of those victims are female, officials said.
