A north London neighborhood already on edge from recent arson attacks saw fresh violence Wednesday, with two people stabbed in what a local security group says was a street attack on Jewish people. Shomrim, a volunteer patrol in Golders Green, where half of the residents are Jewish, said its team detained a male suspect allegedly seen running along a road with a knife and trying to stab Jewish passersby, per NBC News. Police later used a Taser on the 45-year-old suspect as he allegedly tried to stab officers, per the BBC. The victims, in their 30s and 70s, are reportedly in stable condition after treatment by Hatzola, a Jewish charity ambulance service targeted in a March arson attack.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Parliament the incident, coming two days after a suspected arson attack on a nearby memorial wall, was "deeply concerning" and said authorities must be firm in tackling such offenses. Three men and a teenager are facing charges in the March arson attack on four Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green, which prosecutors have described as a targeted attack against the Jewish community, per the BBC. As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made in Monday's suspected arson at a wall displaying photos of protesters killed in Iran as well as individuals killed in the 2023 Hamas attack in Israel, the BBC reports.

Similar arson attacks have been reported in other London neighborhoods in recent weeks, with dozens arrested. The Community Security Trust, a charity serving Britain's Jewish community, says antisemitic incidents more than doubled last year amid the Israel-Hamas war, per NBC. Starmer said Wednesday that "attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain," a comment echoed by Finchley and Golders Green MP Sarah Sackman.
