President Trump says a triple-digit forecast won't shorten his big July 4 moment. Speaking at the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota on Wednesday, the president vowed to talk for quite some time on the National Mall for the nation's 250th birthday, joking he'd do it even in the predicted scorching heat, reports the Hill. "It's going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I'm gonna go, and I'm gonna make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything," Trump proclaimed, to cheers from the crowd (video here).
The "Salute to America 250 Celebration & Fireworks" event is set to start at 7pm ET on Saturday, with Trump scheduled to speak at 9:45pm. The president has promoted the event as the ultimate Trump rally, promising military flyovers and what he calls the "largest fireworks show in history," expected around 10:30 or 11 that night. USA Today notes that's a later pyrotechnics start time than in the past. The National Weather Service projects dangerous heat in Washington, with highs near 107 and an evening temperature still close to 90.
