For the first time, Iran has publicly outlined the wounds suffered by its new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, in the strike that killed his father on Feb. 28. In a video posted on social media by Nour, a news outlet tied to Iran's Supreme National Security Council, senior official Mazaher Hosseini said Khamenei injured his kneecap and back in the attacks carried out by Israel and the US, the Wall Street Journal reports. Khamenei's wife was killed in the same strikes, Hosseini said, as was his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Hosseini said that the back injury has been resolved and that Khamenei's knee is expected to recover soon. He also mentioned a minor cut behind Khamenei's ear that he said has been treated and is hidden by his turban. US officials have characterized Khamenei's condition as more serious, though they have not publicly provided details. Khamenei hasn't been seen or heard in public since the war began, fueling speculation about his condition, per the AP. In the video, Hosseini said the supreme leader will address the public "at the appropriate time."
