A Florida man says a 20-foot stroll from a cruise ship pool to his lounge chair left him with second-degree burns—and he wants Carnival to pay up. Jorge Luis Alverio Nunez has sued the cruise giant for more than $5 million, claiming in the federal filing that the Lido deck of the Carnival Magic in May 2025 was so hot it burned the bottoms of his bare feet "within seconds," the Independent reports. The suit, filed in south Florida, says Carnival had been warned by the deck's manufacturer as early as 2014 that it could reach hazardous temperatures.
The suit says the company failed to post warning signs, cool or shade the area, require footwear, or swap in a safer material. It also alleges at least 25 passengers suffered similar burns in the six years before Nunez was hurt, with two cases reportedly resulting in foot-and-leg amputations below the knee. Nunez says he has ongoing medical needs, emotional distress, and lost income; Carnival says it does not comment on pending litigation. Nunez wants a jury trial, per ABC News.
