A hike on a Caribbean volcano ended in tragedy for a cruise passenger who vanished last week and was found dead Monday on St. Kitts, authorities say. Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Chinese national Wang Zyuan, who was traveling on a cruise and set out alone on the Mount Liamuiga trail on May 27, per CBS News. He called 911 around 2pm that afternoon to say he was lost, but contact was cut off, triggering a dayslong search involving volunteers and multiple agencies.

His body was eventually located on the dormant volcano, the island's highest point at nearly 3,800 feet. Officials have not released a cause of death and say the investigation continues, urging the public to avoid speculation and rely on official updates. A day after Wang's disappearance, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force urged anyone planning to hike the volcano to travel with a registered guide, per People. The hike is described on AllTrails as strenuous with "slippery sections and steep rock scrambles."
