Dolly Parton pulled off a surprise pit stop this week. The 80-year-old country icon unexpectedly appeared Wednesday at the grand opening of Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop off I-65 in Cornersville, Tennessee, after earlier promotional materials said she wouldn't be there, reports the Tennessean. The outing is one of only a few public events Parton has made in 2026 as she continues recovering from health issues and mourning the death of her husband, Carl Dean.

"I'm sure some of you want to know why I wanted a truck stop," Parton told the attendees. "Well, I couldn't leave it to beavers," she said, making a jokey reference to the mascot of rival Buc-ee's. In March, she told fans at Dollywood that she'd been rebuilding herself "spiritually, emotionally and physically," and in May she said she's working with doctors after her immune and digestive systems were "out of whack" in recent years. The Cornersville site blends gas pumps with barbecue, coffee, live music, and Tennessee-flavored retail. People has photos of the facility.
