Parents in one New Jersey town are asking how a baby picture of Adolf Hitler ended up in a middle school yearbook. The photo appeared in a section featuring childhood snapshots of recent graduates at East Brook Middle School in Paramus, triggering a swift recall of the books, reports WABC. In a letter to families, the school's principal called the image unacceptable, saying it "has no place" in a student yearbook and "does not reflect who we are or what East Brook stands for." Paramus Mayor Chris DiPiazza similarly said the episode doesn't represent the community, calling it the result of "one bad action."
NBC New York reports that the image, a black-and-white pic taken not long after Hitler's 1889 birth, was apparently quietly placed in the larger collage of baby photos by a student. The district has notified local police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and launched an investigation into how the photo slipped through. All yearbooks were collected before students could bring them home, after a teacher noticed the photo, and are being replaced. News 12 reports that the school is trying to figure out how to address yearbooks that were already signed by classmates and teachers.
