Phil Mickelson is pushing back against a new report that paints him as unwelcome at multiple California golf clubs over misconduct allegations involving women. In an investigation by golf outlet Skratch, reporter Alan Shipnuck detailed claims that the six-time major winner was effectively pushed out of three clubs and highlighted an allegation from Ashley Perez, ex-wife of PGA Tour pro Pat Perez, that Mickelson showed her an explicit photo of himself and propositioned her in 2015. In a statement sent to the New York Post and obtained by USA Today, Mickelson's camp dismissed the story as an "anonymously sourced drive-by shooting."
The statement added that the account involving Perez omitted key context, calling the situation a misunderstanding for which he later apologized. The golfer's team stressed that any club departures were his decision, saying his membership has never been revoked or expelled anywhere, and criticized Skratch's reliance on unnamed sources and its ties to the PGA Tour. Skratch's editor-in-chief said the outlet stands by its reporting and noted that Mickelson, his wife, and his lawyer were given a chance to respond. Golf Digest reported last month that Mickelson resigned from a San Diego-area golf club after he was accused of making unwanted physical contact with a female employee. Mickelson, now with LIV Golf, has played only one event this year, citing a family health issue.
